Be Free From Sin – The Butterfly Teaches Us
I am hoping to soon get the right lenses to take much better quality pictures and videos.
I was reminded of when I was a child, during the August vacation, my siblings and I would catch butterflies – first with our hands, then we made nets to catch them. We would put them in jars with a net on top. But they’d always die. Them we thought of putting them in neat little cages but still after a short time there, they would die. I never understood why – until I was much older.
No matter how much we liked butterflies as children, they were not made for jars and cages. Likewise, the human person was not made for sin. Sin kills us just as much as a jar or a cage kills a butterfly. Just as the butterfly was not made to be captured and put in jars or cute little cages, neither were we made for sin. St. Paul in his letter to the Galatians wrote:
Brothers and sisters: For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.
(Galatians 5: 1)
Butterflies were made to be free, free to glide on the wind flying from one flower to the next doing that which they were created to do. So too was the human soul made to be free – free from sin that no matter how attractive or how popular it may seen, will only bind us up and take away our freedom, freedom to be holy as our Heavenly Father is holy.
The butterfly was not made to be admired from within the confines of a jar or a cage. It was made to carry out a very specific purpose – that of pollination and cross pollination. So too was every single human person created for a very specific purpose – to know, love and serve God so that we can enjoy total and absolute freedom and eternal bliss in Eternity with God forever.
So whenever you see a butterfly, always remember that you were not made for sin and ask God for the grace to stay very far from that which takes away your freedom.
God Bless You.
