Courage! It Is I. Do Not Be Afraid
Friday Evening of the Jesus Explosion 2010 was closed off with a sharing entitled “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” This sharing was delivered by yet another young, and very energetic priest – Fr. Cornelius Phillip. The title of this sharing is based on Matthew chapter 14, after Jesus had just fed the multitude, and he sent his disciples ahead of him, in a boat, to the other side of the lake, while we went up the mountain to pray. But a storm came and the disciples started to dispair, but Jesus came to them, walking on the water. They were even more petrified when they saw this, but Jesus said to them, “Courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”
In this very powerful sharing, Fr. Cornelius, who is very youth oriented, spoke to the challenges that Catholics and Christians face in today’s world, and encouraged his listeners not to be afraid to live the Catholic faith in all its fullness, but to have courage knowing that God is with us when we choose to live for him.
After this sharing, everyone left that Friday in eager anticipation of what was to come for the reast of the weekend retreat.
