Pray The Rosary – The Second Sorrowful Mystery
The Second Sorrowful Mystery – The Scourging at the Pillar.
I wonder how many of you have seen the movie The Passion of Christ? I have seen in its entirety once in the cinema. I was so moved by it that I purchased the movie on DVD but never had the courage to look at it again. It was very painful to see what would have been a very accurate reenactment of The Passion of Christ Jesus, and the manner in which he was beaten. I just could not look at it again.
13Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, 14and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. 15Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. 16Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.”
(Lk. 23:13-16)
Meditation On The Second Sorrowful Mystery
Mother Mary, Woman of great Sorrows; what pain and anguish you must have experienced seeing your son, him whom you bore in your womb, being beaten and spat upon, knowing fully well that he was innocent that he had not done anything to deserve this punishment.
We are reminded that Jesus endure this pain and this beating for all of us. This was the price of our salvation being paid in full by the Son of God. Even though he was the son of God, it was no easy task for him to endure.
The prophet Isaiah foretold this event when he wrote,
4 Yet ours were the sufferings he was bearing, ours the sorrows he was carrying, while we thought of him as someone being punished and struck with affliction by God; 5 whereas he was being wounded for our rebellions, crushed because of our guilt; the punishment reconciling us fell on him, and we have been healed by his bruises.
. (Isaiah 53: 4-5)
Prayer
As we pray and meditate on this the second sorrowful mystery of the Rosary, we ask Oh Mother of God for the grace to always remember the cost of our sins and the price, the Pearl of great price that had to be paid for our Redemption.
