Human dignity – what is its root and why is it important?

The dignity of every single person (their human dignity) is rooted in his or her creation in the image and likeness of God. Endowed with a spiritual and immortal soul, intelligence and free will, the human person is ordered to God and called in soul and in body to eternal beatitude. This truth forms the basis of the Catholic Church’s teachings on abortion and all life related issues.

So based on this principle of human dignity, no one is better that the other.  No human life at any stage of existence should be considered as least or of no relevance
