Glorious Saturday

In accordance with ancient tradition, Glorious Saturday night one of vigil for the Lord. For it is written in Exodus chapter 12, verse 42, “the night, when he we kept vigil to bring them out of the land of Egypt, must be kept as of vigil in honour of Yahweh for all their generations.

In the Gospel of St. Luke chapter 12 verse 35 we are reminded to have our lamps burning and to be like men waiting for their masters return, so that when he arrives he will find us all awake.

The Easter vigil is arranged into four parts:

• Part One: a brief service of light where the light from the Paschal candle is a shared with the faithful.
• Part two: the Liturgy of the Word — in which the church meditates on all the wonderful things God has done for his people from the beginning.
• Part three: the liturgy of baptism – as the day of the resurrection approaches, new members of the church a reborn in baptism and or renew their baptismal promises
• Part four: the liturgy of the Eucharist — the whole church is called to the table which the Lord repaired for his people through his death and resurrection.

The entire Easter vigil celebration takes place at night. It should not begin a fortnight before nightfall,  nor should it end after daybreak on Easter Sunday.
