Christmas Everyday

Christmas Everyday Launched

Fully Catholic Internet Radio has launched its Christmas Everyday program.  What is the Christmas Everyday all about?  Well, we have found that very many Catholics treat the seasons within the Catholic Church the same way they treat the clothing that is worn during the various seasons of the year – summer comes and you put on your best summer wear; but when summer is over, that’s it for the summer clothing.  We tend to do the same thing with the seasons of the Church; more specifically here with Christmas.  We are transformed at Christmas time into joyful, loving, peaceful people, and as Christmas day is done, we go back to our old selves.

So how are the seasons of the Catholic Church to be lived? Every season within the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church is meant to draw us into a deeper encounter with God through Jesus Christ His Son. For example Advent teaches us to watch and wait for the second coming of Christ and to make straight a path for Him. It teaches us to always be ready by putting our lives in order.

Christmas teaches us about the extreme love of God, who so did not want to be estranged from us “His Beloved”, that He sent His Son into the world to be one with us and to save us from our sins by dying on the cross and taking our place, and then, rising to new life.  It is a time of great love because of the extravagant love the Father has lavished upon us.

At Easter time, we celebrate the triumphant Lord Jesus Christ who defeated death, hell and the grave.  He became the Lamb of God who takes away our sins. At Pentecost we remember and celebrate the love of God again who, after His Son rose triumphant from the grave, did not want to leave us alone to find our way, and so He left us His Spirit.

So here is the challenge for many Catholics.  We do not see all of these absolutely beautiful liturgical seasons of the Catholic Church as aspects of our spirituality to be practiced and lived even long after the season is gone.  Many rather see them as they do a winter coat in summer – it is placed in a cupboard somewhere for the next winter – if not thrown out.

While Easter may be the most important season within the Catholic Church, Christmas appears to be the one that is most transforming and far reaching in that it transcends the Christian boundaries to all men and women of goodwill. People smile more, seem to love and care more, they give more, they cheer more!  Music I believe, plays a very important role during Christmas and the music of which I speak is not the secular world’s interpretation of Christmas, but rather authentic Christmas carols and song that tell of the love of God and the birth of Jesus.  For even the unwilling heart is tamed by this music.  Music can bring us to a place of quite reflection and can stir up our emotions.  It can touch us in ways that nothing else can. So the thinking here is that if we heard authentic Christmas carols outside of the Christmas season, it may :-

  1. cause us to think about Christmas and the true meaning of Christmas outside of  the normal Christmas season – more so since the songs being used tell of the birth of Christ

  2. cause that Christmas joy to be manifest in our hearts

  3. cause us to want to encounter and live the true Spirit of Christmas

  4. cause the experiences gained at Christmas and the transformation that takes place at Christmas to become more a part of who we are.

  5. and eventually whether we hear Christmas music of not, whether we’re in the Christmas season or not, we will be filled with Christmas joy and with the Christmas Spirit.

Now Christmas Everyday will not be aired  every day of the year, but only during ordinary time of the Church liturgical year.  This is so that it will not detract from other important Catholic seasons such as Lent, Easter, Pentecost and Advent.

What time is Christmas Everyday being aired?  It is aired every day at 11:00am, 5:00pm and 10:00pm, during ordinary time of the Church’s liturgical year. So tune in and let the music of Christmas Everyday bless your heart and your life.

May God bless and keep you.  May He make his face to shine upon you and overflow you with his peace.
