Good Friday
Good Friday also known as the celebration of our Lord’s passion, is the second day of the Easter Triduum. In this celebration of the passion and death of Jesus Christ,
We listen to the words of Scripture and strive to understand the true meaning of his suffering and the mind that was in him;
We pray with his spirit for the needs of the whole world
We worship and venerate the cross as a symbol of his triumph and finally
We enter into sacramental communion with him who is our Saviour and our life.
According to the churches ancient traditions, the sacraments are not celebrated on Good Friday nor of the day that follows – Glorious Saturday. The alter should be completely bear, without cloths, candles, or cross. This celebration of the Lord’s passion takes place in the afternoon, generally about three o’clock. The celebration consists of three parts:
the liturgy of the Word,
the veneration of the Cross,
and the holy Eucharist.
The priest and the sacred ministers, wearing a red Mass vestments go to the altar. There in reverence, they prostrate themselves. On Good Friday the passion of Christ is generally enacted in the gospel reading.
