What Would Moses Say To Us?

As we begin our journey through Lent, I challenge you – especially my countryman; citizens of Trinidad and Tobago – to take the Word of God to heart.  Personalize it and take it very seriously.  See what is happening around you and take the Word of God very seriously.

2 Timothy 3:16 declares, “All scripture is inspired by God and useful for refuting error, for guiding people’s lives and teaching them to be upright”.   This certainly holds true for us here in Trinidad and Tobago and where ever in the world you may be.  there is much error; much correction to be made in the way we live as a nation.

So looking at yesterday’s first reading – Deuteronomy 30: 15 – 20, if Moses were to appear to Trinidad and Tobago here and now, at this time in our history, what would he say to us.  I believe he would say what was in the first reading and would sound like this:-

“Today Trinidad and Tobago, I have set before you
life and prosperity, death and doom.
If you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God,
which I enjoin on you today Trinidad and Tobago,
loving him, and walking in his ways,
and keeping his commandments, statutes and decrees,
you will live and grow numerous,
and the LORD, your God,
will bless you in the land you are entering to occupy.
If, however Trinidad and Tobago, you turn away your hearts and will not listen,
but are led astray and adore and serve other gods – the gods of money, of fornication, of idolatry, the gods of pornography, the gods of sexual immorality, the gods of violence, of alcohol, the gods of drugs, the gods of corruption, the god of self and materialism – if you place these gods and all the other gods before me
I tell you now that you will certainly perish as a people – you will perish as a nation;
you will not have a long life
on the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and occupy.
I call heaven and earth today  to witness against you Trinidad and Tobago:
I have set before you life and death,
the blessing and the curse.
Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD, your God with all your heart, with your whole soul, with all your strength,
heeding his voice and his voice alone, and holding fast to him and him alone as your rock and your stronghold.
For that will mean life for you T&T, and the LORD God desires life for you
a long life for you to live on the land that the LORD swore
he would give to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”
This is the LORD’s desire for you – life in abundance; and he has already poured out His graces over you.
Hear Trinidad and Tobago, the LORD GOD is ONE GOD, and you shall love him and him alone with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength.

Examination Of Conscience

Do I have false gods? What are they?  What do i need to let go of to draw nearer to GOD?  Surrender them to GOD; ask for His mercy and the grace to worship HIM and HIM alone.  Make a good confession.
