What is the Second Commandment and what does it mean?

The Second Commandment says “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.”  We take God’s name in vain when:

• We disrespect the name of God by uttering His name lightly or carelessly, out of anger or frustration or when we use His name to curse others.
• We do not mention God’s name in appropriate situations that can bare witness to him.
• We are angry with God.
• We wish evil upon others
• We dishonour or disrespect sacred persons, objects or practices.
• We make false oaths.

All of these are things that we must avoid so as not to break the second commandment
